Humble yourselves therefore under the mighty hand of God, so that he may exalt you in due time.
- ( 1 Pet 5 : 6)
In the Gospel of Matthew, there's a pivotal moment where Jesus speaks to Simon, declaring, "You are Peter, and on this rock I will build my church; the gates of hell will not prevail against it. I will give you the keys of the kingdom of heaven, and whatever you bind on earth shall be bound in heaven, and whatever you loose on earth shall be loosed in heaven." (Matthew 16:18-19)
This passage signifies Jesus' trust in Peter as the cornerstone of his Church, despite Peter's later denial of knowing Christ during his arrest. Peter repented, and Jesus, displaying great compassion, forgave him. This exemplifies Jesus' recognition of human frailty and his capacity for restoration, emphasizing that leadership within the Church hinges on faith, repentance, and a willingness to follow Christ.
